Flying out to the Scillies & Aran Islands

Five days, 1.000 miles, a few islands and a great bliss

The front is moving north westwards, so we cross the Channel to Cherbourg in a clear sky, and then head to Deauville. From the current weather conditions in Deauville (500m visibility, rain, etc.) the front is sitting just on the airfield. It's better in Caen which has just been washed by the front, leaving 2000ft ceiling with scattered CB and high visibility. We'll head into Caen and then try Bernay, to the south west.
We are flying into the front, and a miracle happens : a hole opens in the dark and dense curtain, like a tunnel. We cross the front out of the clouds at 2000ft, high speed (30kt tailwind) and some rain on the wings... and we are propulsed into the blue !

After crossing the front, the temperature goes down quickly by some 10 degrees.

We make 360° to take pictures of the front because it is very impressive, a good illustration for a weather book

You'd have to be crazy to try to cross into that from east to west

That will have been very interesting weatherwise, living the front from the inside.

The wind is pushing us into Toussus with CAVOK. We'll be there before the night in spite of our diversion and reroutings.

A last picture before we go... This was not the hole in the front, we were too focused on taking the right decision for that, but this is what it felt like !

Thank you for your patience with my rusty English ! Anne-Celine
